Perceiving and Reasoning about a Changing World
نویسنده
چکیده
A rational agent (artificial or otherwise) residing in a complex changing environment must gather information perceptually, update that information as the world changes, and combine that information with causal information to reason about the changing world. Using the system of defeasible reasoning that is incorporated into the OSCAR architecture for rational agents, a set of reason-schemas is proposed for enabling an agent to perform some of the requisite reasoning. Along the way, solutions are proposed for the Frame Problem, the Qualification Problem, and the Ramification Problem. The principles and reasoning described have all been implemented in OSCAR. keywords: defeasible reasoning, nonmonotonic logic, perception, causes, causation, time, temporal This work was supported in part by NSF grant no. Reason in a Changing World
A rational agent (artificial or otherwise) residing in a complex changing environment must gather information perceptually, update that information as the world changes, and combine that information with causal information to reason about the changing world. Using the system of defeasible reasoning that is incorporated into the OSCAR architecture for rational agents (Pollock 1995 and 1995a), a ...
متن کاملThe role of "memory" (treasury of meaning) and "imagination" (treasury of face) of the architect in shaping the process of creating and perceiving architectural works based on the view of transcendent wisdom
The issue of how the process of creating and perceiving architectural works and the factors affecting it is an important, multidimensional and interdisciplinary category. However, at present, the process of formation of architectural works in most studies is based on superficial perceptions of human perception and at best depends on the five human senses and, of course, usually limited to some ...
متن کاملA Robotic Web
A. Well, the Web is not yet very robotic, but it is becoming more so, and its progression along this path provides a guide to its evolution. Let's first think about the Web in robotic terms. A common, generic, cognitive architecture for a robot's behavior is PRA: perceive, reason, act (see Figure 1). A robot with a PRA architecture would use its sensors to perceive its environment — which is ty...
متن کاملKantian Philosophy of Mathematics and Young Robots
A child, or young human-like robot of the future, needs to develop an information-processing architecture, forms of representation, and mechanisms to support perceiving, manipulating, and thinking about the world, especially perceiving and thinking about actual and possible structures and processes in a 3-D environment. The mechanisms for extending those representations and mechanisms, are also...
متن کاملComprehension of factual, nonfactual, and counterfactual conditionals by Iranian EFL learners
A considerable amount of studies have been established on conditional reasoning supporting mental model theory of propositional reasoning. Mental model theory proposed by Johnson- larid and Byrne is an explanation of someone's thought process about how something occurs in the real world. Conditional reasoning as a kind of reasoning is the way to speak about possibilities or probabilities. The a...
